Adoption

"Adoption with Kent means there is always someone who cares"

Could adoption be your option? Kent Adoption Service is calling on you to take the first step towards adopting a child. We are looking for all sorts of people, from different backgrounds and in different circumstances, to provide loving and permanent homes for children. We are looking for single people, married couples and unmarried couples in long-term relationships. Adoptive families are particularly needed for older children, groups of brothers and sisters and children from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

So if you are thinking about adoption, contact us for an information pack which will explain the adoption process, which is very thorough but you will get the chance to talk informally with staff from the adoption service and with adopters who have been through the process, to find out what it is really all about.

Adoption provides a new permanent family for children whose birth families are not able to bring them up. This gives those children who may have had difficulties in their early lives an important new sense of safety and belonging.

The Kent County Adoption Service is responsible for finding adoptive families for those children in Kent awaiting adoption. The significant increase in the number of adoptions arranged by the Kent County Council teams is one of Kent's major success stories. We welcome hearing from you if you wish to explore the prospect of making a Kent child in our care part of your family.

There are several types of adoption and we can support and guide you through the whole adoption process. We also provide information and guidance to adults who have been adopted and may need support, for instance, in tracing birth parents. Our counselling services offer help to all those involved personally and professionally in adoption, including birth families.

Please note Kent County Council can only consider Kent residents as potential adopters, if you wish to find out more about becoming an adopter your first point of call would be your own local authority for advice (link opens in new window). However, you are able to approach any adoption agency this contact list is just a sample of alternative local adoption agencies.

BAAF British Association for Adoption and Fostering (link opens in a new window) would also be able to offer more detailed information.
