Carers and family support

The Kent Family Group Conference Service was established in June 2002 and is a way of working with families where plans and decisions need to be made.

Kent Youth Offending Service (YOS) is a multi-agency partnership established by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. The purpose of the Youth Offending Service is to tackle youth crime.

Carers look after family, partners or friends in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. "The care they provide is unpaid" - Kent County Council 2006.

Young carers come from all cultural, community, ethnic and faith backgrounds, they are under 18, looking after, or helping to look after, a family member suffering from a long term illness, disability or a dependency on substances. They may undertake a range of caring tasks and assume physical and emotional responsibilities normally carried out by an adult.

The Adult Placement Scheme places vulnerable adults with Adult Placement Carers in local communities giving them opportunity to be part of a family or household and other social networks.

The Kent County Council Link Scheme provides short breaks for children with disabilities of any kind and at any age, from infant to 18 years old.

The Primary Intervention Project is a new and exciting school based project offering support to families and pupils across six schools in Thanet.
